Costs and Fees to Register a Company in Malta in 2026

Registration of a public and private company is a relatively quick process. If the companies legal documents with all supporting documentation complete in good order delivered to the Registrar, within a week of delivery the certificate of incorporation will be issued. A company setup in Malta provides an effective, EU-based solution.

1. Government Registration Fees (Malta Business Registry)

When you register a company in Malta, you pay official statutory fees to the Malta Business Registry (MBR). These fees are based on the company’s authorised share capital - the higher the authorised capital, the higher the fee.

Key Points

- Minimum fee: €100 — this applies for companies with authorised share capital up to €1,500.
- Top end of scale: up to about €2,250 for very large companies with capital exceeding several million euros.

Government Fees (Indicative Scale)

Up to €1,500 €245 €100–€210

2. Annual Fees & Compliance Charges

After incorporation, every Maltese company must file an annual return with the MBR and pay an annual fee — also based on authorised share capital.

Typical Annual Return Fees

- Minimum: ~€100 per year for small-capital companies.
- Higher brackets: fees can rise to €1,400+ for companies with very large share capital.
- Late-filing penalties: can apply if returns are submitted past statutory deadlines.

These fees are separate from government taxes and do not include professional compliance costs (e.g., accountants or auditors).

3. Other Mandatory Costs

Minimum Share Capital

- For a private limited company (Ltd): minimum €1,165 authorised share capital , with at least 20 % paid up on incorporation.
- Public companies require much higher capital, but most new businesses will be private companies.
